At 15 wk one-half of waukesha each group waukesha was placed on a high-fat diet. At 32 wk of age the experiment was ended. Several conclusions can be drawn about the effects of adrenalectomy, high-fat diets, and their interaction in the Zucker fatty rat. First, adrenalectomy slowed the weight gain in both obese fatty rats and in the lean animals, although the effect was greater in the fatty rats. Second, weight gain was accelerated in intact lean and fatty rats eating a high-fat diet. Third, adrenalectomy attenuated the weight gain associated with a high-fat diet and reduced the body content of fat and protein in the lean animals and fatty rats fed the low-fat diet. |
